Collections Driver Position
The REMIX ORGANICS COMPANY seeks
a full-time Collections Driver to join our Team.  The Collections Driver is responsible for: 

  • Safely driving collection vehicles;

  • Emptying food scrap bins at customer locations and maintaining cleanliness of area where where customer bins are stored;

  • Hauling food scraps to processing sites (anaerobic digesters and compost facilities) in Rhode Island and Massachusetts;

  • Maintaining a clean and orderly collection truck.

The Collections Driver position is a physically strenuous and demanding job. We work in all weather, so we are looking for a Team member prepared to work in all conditions (rain, heat, cold)! Collection Drivers are exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, given the nature of food scrap collections and seasonal weather.

Pay is hourly at $18/hour for the first 30 days (review period), at 30-40 hours per week.  After the 30 day review period, the Collections Driver has the opportunity to shift to a salaried 40 hour/week position with benefits (paid time off, health and dental insurance).  Normal workdays hours are ~6:30 am - 3 pm, but may be subject to change.

No previous experience is required, as on-job training will be a core component of the initial 90 day review period.  We are looking for a Collections Driver who brings a positive attitude and work ethic, is able to accept direction but work independently, and who is motivated to work hard and get the job done.

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Operate The ReMix Organics Company trucks in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury and property damage

  • Collect food scraps from buildings, businesses and other facilities

  • Pressure wash compost bins onsite at pickup locations (using water tank and pressure washer on vehicle)

  • Record number of bins from each customer account using online tracker

  • Communicate with other ROC Team members regularly using app-based platform

  • Safely transport food scraps to anaerobic digestion and/or compost processing sites

  • Dump material and ensure cleanliness of collections truck (using water tank and pressure washer on vehicle)

  • Return truck to secure parking location

  • Maintain a clean and orderly appearance of oneself and equipment used

  • Interact with customers and the general public in a courteous and professional manner

Physical/Mental Demands:

Job applicants must be able to:

  • Climb in and out of truck cabs constantly throughout the shift

  • Step into vehicles at a height of approximately 2 to 3 feet

  • Exert force and lift up to 50 lbs, push and roll compost bins weighing up to 350 lbs.

  • Handle, grip, and grasp controls, including power take off controls

  • Demonstrate visual and auditory acuity in order to safely operate collection trucks

  • Frequently walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, and rake material as needed during collections

  • Regularly reach above, at, and below shoulder level

  • Communicate effectively and cooperate with Team members and customers

  • Perform basic daily administrative duties to track collection accounts and volumes and report bins collected on routes

  • Pass physical examination and receive a DOT Health Card for operating commercial vehicles

Required Qualifications: 

  • Valid Rhode Island Driver’s License with clean driving record

  • Experience driving in Rhode Island, with general knowledge of Rhode Island streets and highways

  • Ability to perform extensive physical activity and strenuous physical work
